Chaffee County Traffic Courts
Traffic cases in Chaffee County do not all go to one counter. Colorado County Courts handle traffic infractions, misdemeanors, felony complaints before transfer, protection orders, small claims, and civil matters under the state county-court limit. Municipal courts handle local ordinance and municipal traffic matters inside city limits. That means a citation from a county or state case may belong with Chaffee Combined Court, while a city ticket may belong with Salida Municipal Court or Buena Vista Municipal Court.
| Court or Office | Traffic Records Handled | Access Path |

| Salida Tyler Portal | Eligible city citation payment and search | Municipal payment search |

Search Chaffee County Traffic Records
The first search choice is the issuing court shown on the citation. Chaffee County Court traffic records can be checked through Colorado Judicial Branch dockets for hearing and case context, and through the Colorado Judicial Online Payment System for payable matters. Salida citations use the city court page and Tyler payment portal. Buena Vista publishes a court clerk phone route rather than an official online case-search portal.
- Read the citation for court name, ticket number, case number, appearance date, and issuing agency.
- For Chaffee County Court, use the Colorado Judicial Online Payment System or call Chaffee Combined Court.
- For Salida municipal cases, use the Salida municipal payment search or call the court clerk.
- For Buena Vista municipal cases, call Court Clerk Judy Nyberg because no official online case search was located.
- Use the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search when the goal is a hearing date or case status rather than payment.
- Request a certified court disposition from the court if an employer, DMV, insurer, or out-of-state agency needs proof.
Traffic cases involving DUI or other criminal allegations may move beyond a simple citation record and into Chaffee County criminal court records.
Chaffee County Citation Lookup Fields
The Colorado Judicial Online Payment System is the state court payment path for Chaffee County Court matters. It is not the same as a municipal case search and not the same as a DMV driving record. For Salida, the city uses a Tyler municipal payment/search page. Buena Vista did not publish an official public case portal in the research.

Chaffee County Traffic Record Details
A court traffic record is a court case file or docket entry. It may show the ticket, case number, charge or ordinance, court date, plea, disposition, fine, costs, and payment status. The exact fields depend on whether the record is a state county-court matter, a Salida municipal case, or a Buena Vista municipal case. A DMV driver record is separate and may lag behind court action until reporting is processed.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Citation or ticket number | The number used by the court or payment portal to locate the case. |
| Case number | The court file number for docket or clerk lookup. |
| Issuing court | Chaffee County Court, Salida Municipal Court, or Buena Vista Municipal Court. |
| Charge, ordinance, or statute | The alleged traffic violation or city code section. |
| Court date | The appearance, hearing, or payment deadline when public. |
| Plea or disposition | How the traffic case was resolved in court. |
| Fine, costs, or payment status | Amounts due, paid, or pending where the payment system displays them. |
Pay or Contest Chaffee County Tickets
Payment is not the right choice for every Chaffee County traffic citation. Paying may resolve the court case but can also create a conviction or reportable outcome for DMV purposes. To contest a ticket, contact the court before the appearance or payment deadline and ask about plea procedure, required appearance, and any proof needed. For state court traffic, use Chaffee Combined Court or the online payment system. For Salida, use the city court page or Tyler portal. For Buena Vista, call the municipal court clerk.
| Action | Chaffee County Path | What to Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Pay a county ticket | Colorado Judicial Online Payment System | Case or ticket match, amount due, and payment timing. |
| Pay a Salida ticket | Salida municipal online payment search | City court case, deadline, and clerk availability. |
| Handle Buena Vista ticket | Call the municipal court clerk | Monthly court date, plea options, and appearance needs. |
| Contest a citation | Contact the issuing court | Do not pay first unless the court says payment fits the chosen outcome. |
| Missed date or payment | Issuing court plus DMV follow-up if needed | Bench warrant, default, late fees, or driver-record effects. |

Traffic Court vs Driver Record
The court traffic record and the Colorado DMV driver record are different files. The court record shows the case: citation, court date, plea, disposition, fine, and court payment status. The driver record is maintained by the Colorado Department of Revenue and shows license status, convictions reported to DMV, points, suspensions, and driver-history information. Paying a court fine does not mean the DMV record updates at once.
| Record Type | Source | What It Shows | How to Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court traffic record | Chaffee County Court or municipal court | Citation, case number, charge, plea or disposition, fine, costs, and payment status. | Court docket, payment portal, clerk contact, or certified disposition request. |
| State driver record | Colorado DMV | License status, convictions reported to DMV, points, suspensions, and driver history. | Online, mail, or office request through DMV motor vehicle record channels. |
The Colorado DMV motor vehicle record page offers certified and non-certified driver-record requests.

Chaffee County Driver Record Requests
Colorado DMV driver records are restricted by DPPA and Colorado law, especially when the request is for another person's record. The DMV page lists online, mail, and office channels. Non-certified copies are emailed within 24 hours, while attorney requests may take up to two business days. Certified copies are stamped by DMV, mailed to the requester's address, and typically take two business days to process.
| Field or Requirement | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| DR 2559 | Form | Required for self or authorized release | Permission for Release of Individual Records. |
| Full name | Text | Required | Required for written request. |
| Date of birth | Date | Required | Used to identify the driver record. |
| Driver license number | Text | If available | Helpful for faster matching. |
| Original signature | Signature | Required | Must be complete and legible. |
| Other person's record | Legal certification | Conditional | Consent or permissible use may be needed, with DR 2489 or DR 2478 forms. |
Chaffee County DUI and CDL
DUI and serious traffic-related criminal allegations should not be treated as routine traffic-payment records. Once a criminal case opens, the filed complaint, hearings, disposition, and sentence belong in the court case file. CDL holders may also face driver-record consequences separate from the court fine or municipal payment process, so the court record and DMV record both matter.
For certified proof, request the court disposition from the issuing court and the driver record from DMV. For law-enforcement reports from a crash or arrest, use the agency that made the report. Chaffee Sheriff's Records covers sheriff reports and some older Salida Police records, while Salida Police reports from January 1, 2022 onward must be obtained from Salida Police Department.
Chaffee County Traffic Record Fees
Traffic record costs depend on whether the request is for a court copy, a certified disposition, a name search, or a DMV driver record. The researched court request form provides the court copy and certification fee schedule. The DMV page confirms certified and non-certified driver-record options but the research notes did not capture a Chaffee-specific DMV fee amount.
| Item | Amount or Rule |
|---|---|
| Court copy | $0.25 per page; maximum $15 for parties and attorneys, no maximum for non-parties. |
| Certified or exemplified court copy | $20.00 per document. |
| Name search | $5.00. |
| Research or redaction | $30.00 per hour after the first hour, in 15-minute increments. |
| Off-site retrieval | Actual cost of retrieval. |
| DMV driver record | Use DMV's current online, mail, or office request path for certified or non-certified records. |
Note: A certified court disposition and a certified DMV motor vehicle record serve different proof needs.
